German Pinscher Facts
The German Pinscher is an ancient breed, with origins tracing back to the 15th Century as a guardian of German farms. This breed has significantly influenced the creation of several others, including the Dobermann, Rottweiler, and Miniature Pinscher. Schnauzer - once known as the wire-haired German Pinscher is historically one and the same breed. Renowned for their versatility, German Pinschers excel in various roles, from being loyal companions to effective guardians and adept working dogs.
German Pinschers are known for their loyalty and strong work ethic, often eager to please their owners. However, they also possess a strong independent streak, which can make training a bit of a challenge. These dogs thrive on accomplishing tasks, but they can become frustrated when their abilities are restricted. Their keen sense of smell can also distract them during outdoor activities, making it essential to find ways to engage their minds and let them feel in control of their training experiences.
These dogs offer the same drive and energy as larger breeds like the Doberman but, in a more manageable size. Known affectionately as "GP's" their personality, independence, and intelligence make them a joy to train and engage in various activities. With a love for challenges, food, and play, German Pinschers truly shine in dog sports and as loving family members.
The German Pinscher is a versatile breed that offers many advantages to farmers. Their generalist nature allows them to excel in various roles, from hunting vermin to herding livestock and participating in cart activities. Not only do they keep predators at bay, but their smaller size also means they require less food, making them a practical choice. While they shine in many sports, dock diving may not be their forte, as some may not be fond of water.
German Pinschers are exceptional athletes, thanks to their square medium-sized build. Their love for food treats makes training a breeze, as they are intelligent and eager to please. These loyal companions thrive on being active with their owners, whether it's engaging in dog sports or simply enjoying outdoor adventures. With a natural instinct to protect their families and property, they take their roles seriously while remaining friendly towards other dogs.

THE STORY
In memory of De La Rey Petrus Tonkin, whose camaraderie sparked the journey of importing Kyrene CeKa Set Bohemicus and Black Kisser's Formidably Fabulous, thus, the Affix of the Kennel "DARLIN DP" in memory of him, we celebrate his lasting influence and inspiration . Conversations about German Pinschers began on the farm "Darling" in his tractor in 2020 - and while we mourn his unexpected passing his spirit lives on in our hearts. We also extend our gratitude to my Aunt, Margaret Tonkin, whose passion and support mirrors De La Rey her son's support and vision to bring German Pinschers into South Africa's cultural fabric.

PEPPI MOTHER OF THE NATION
It all began when Carlu Portwig lived in Mauritius for 3 years and he picked up a little puppy in the North on a beach, with a broken leg and covered in mange. He took Peppi to the Vet and she became the companion he desperately needed. He brought her back to South Africa when he returned and started doing research about what possibly be the ancestry of Peppi. Eventually it was either a Manchester Terrier or a German Pinscher. Peppi was a little too big and brown to be a Manchester Terrier. Research did not lead me to any breeder in South Africa and after contacting KUSA to confirm no one has ever bred this amazing breed in South Africa.
KYRENE CEKA SET BOHEMICUS OF DARLIN DP
Importing a new breed into a country can be very daunting but, we researched breeders across the world and finally Klára Haskova agreed to allow us to import Kyrene CeKa Set Bohemicus from the Czech Republic to South Africa. It was shortly after the COVID pandemic and she only flew in when she was around 8 months old. Kyrene has grown into a beautiful example of this breed and is an Excellent example of a female within breed standard, she has subsequently become a qualified KUSA South African champion.
BLACK KISSERS FORMIDABLY FABULOUS OF DARLIN DP (LUCA)
Luca has been imported from Finland and Mrs Auli Haapiainen-Liikanen has agreed to Export this absolute Beaut to join DARLIN DP to continue his show career and retirement in South Africa. He is a qualified world champion CH (CIB) with Champion titles in Finland, Estonia and South Africa he has also been awarded National Breed Champion in South Africa in 2024.
LITTER "A"
Welcome to the exciting world of our first litter from Luca (Sire) and Kyrene (Dam), born on October 31, 2024! We are delighted to announce that we have 3 beautiful girls and 6 handsome boys, who will be ready for their new homes on December 26, 2024. Our puppies have successfully completed phase one of their early development, and we are now focusing on their socialisation and environmental integration training.

ZHIVARII'S YOU ROCK THE WORLD OF DARLIN DP (Rock Star)
Rock Star arrived in South Africa from Norway on 5 November 2024, She has a dream pedigree and has been bred by Gunn-Marit Bertheussen at Zhivarii Kennel and arrived at 17 weeks. She has started her basic obedience training as well as show training and we believe she has a great future ahead of her as a show dog and for breeding exceptional puppies in about two years time. She is absolutely beautiful with a larger than life personality.
